Introduction

I came back to Beijing to join the International Heart Forum 2004. Because I had a lecture on PCI on September 4 in Kansai, I took the direct flight from Kansai International Airport to Beijing. Between Tokyo and Being, I know that all of the flights are quite busy. However, the seats of this time flight were relatively vacant. This meeting was planed by FuWai National Cardiovascular Center, and the main organizer was Professor Chen JiLi. FuWai Hospital used to hold the International Symposium on Interventional Cardiology meeting (ISIC) every year organized by Professor Gao RunLin. However, this meeting was absorbed into the new meeting of China Interventional Therapeutics (CIT). Thus, this time meeting was the 1st meeting as IHF meeting.

September 5 Sunday, 2004

The flight by JAL arrived at Beijing Capital Airport before 1:00 PM. Because I was tired, I directly went to the hotel and wanted to have rest there. However, I was called by a telephone from the catheter laboratory at FuWai Hospital. They told me, "Live demonstration is going behind the schedule. Please join us as soon as possible. You have to do at least 3 cases quickly during the live demonstration schedule!"

Actually, the meeting started from September 4, and September 5 was the main day for live case transmission. After receiving this call, I hurried to FuWai Hospital. After arriving at the catheter laboratory, 3 cases were introduced to me by a young doctor. My operating room was a new Siemens flat-panel catheter laboratory. A TV camera was already set.

The 1st case was a patient with occluded bypass grafts. The target was a non-protected left main lesion. I treated this patient by placing 2 Cypher stents through a 7 French guiding catheter from the right radial approach.

Explanation

The moderator of my live demonstration was Dr. Maurice Buchbinder from California. After finishing this case, I explained to the audience what I had done for this patient. My next case was transmitted from the beginning.

While I was making the radial artery puncture, Maurice told the audience, "It is quite lucky to have the chance to see the world' expert Radialist, Dr. Saito, is showing the radial artery puncture." I finished 3 cases very quickly.

Convention Center

I came to the international convention center of Beijing this morning, since I was the chair person for the morning session.

Auditorium

When I arrived at the auditorium around 8:30 AM, there were very few people sitting. I looked around the auditorium to find the other moderators from the chair person seat. However, I could not find any foreign doctors there. Most of the pre-assigned Chinese moderators were not there. I heard that the auditorium was full the day before. After finishing my duty, I returned to Japan by taking the afternoon flight.

はじめに

北京国際心血管病論壇2004(International Heart Forum 2004)に参加するために私はまた北京を訪れました。その前日の9月4日には関西で講演がありましたので、翌日関西空港から北京に飛びました。東京-北京便はいつも満席ですが、この便はとても空いていました。
この学会は阜外心血管センターにより企画され、主催者は陳 紀林教授です。阜外病院はこれまでにISICという学会を毎年、高 教授の手により主催してきましたが、このISICはCITという学会に発展的解消しました。従いましてIHFという学会は本年が最初のものです。

JAL便は北京首都空港に1:00 PM前には到着しました。疲れていたのでそのままホテルに行き休みをとるつもりでした。しかし、阜外病院カテ室から電話が入りました。何でも「ライブデモンストレーションのスケジュールが大幅に遅れている。すぐに来てほしい。スケジュールを立て直すために3例のライブデモンストレーションを行ってほしい。」というものでした。

実際学会は9月4日から始まりライブデモンストレーションのメインの日はこの5日だったのです。電話を受けて阜外病院に急ぎました。カテ室に着くとすぐに3例の症例紹介を受けました。今回のカテ室は新しいシーメンスのフラット・パネルのカテ室でした。既にテレビ・カメラがセットされていました。

一例目はグラフト閉塞の患者さんでした。ターゲットは保護されていない左主幹部病変でした。この患者さんに対しては7Frのガイディング・カテーテルを用いて右橈骨動脈アプローチにより2個のCypherステントで治療しました。

Explanation

この時のモデレーターはカリフォルニアのBuchbinder先生でした。この症例の治療を終え、どのように治療したかを聴衆に対して説明しました。次の症例は最初から放映されました。橈骨動脈の穿刺を行っていると、Buchbinderが聴衆に対して、「Dr. Saitoのような世界的に有名なTRI術者の橈骨動脈穿刺をじかに見られるのはとても幸運だ。」と、呼びかけました。3例をすばやく終了しました。

Convention Center

この日は朝のセッションの座長をせねばなりませんでしたので、北京国際会議場に朝着きました。

Auditorium

8:30 AMに会場に到着しましたが、ほとんど聴衆がいませんでした。私は座長席から会場を見回して他のモデレーターを探しましたが、外国人は誰一人いませんでした。また予定されていた中国のモデレーターもほとんどいませんでした。聞けば前の日の会場は満席だったそうです。この役目を終了して、この日の午後の便で日本に帰国しました。
