Introduction

The end of October 2004 was incredibly busy for me. I had several duties in CCT (Complex Catheter Therapeutics) meeting in Kobe on October 21 and 22. The last duty in the meeting was quite important for me. It was one of the chair persons in the fireside session named “Government Approval Process for Interventional Devices in China, Japan and USA”. After finishing my role in this session at 8:00 PM, I took the last Nozomi Super Express train to Tokyo from Shin-Kobe station at 20:55. I finally came back to my home in Kamakura City around 1:00 AM on October 23 Saturday, 2004.
On October 23, I transmitted my live cases to the Auditorium in CCT meeting at Kobe. I, personally, did 14 difficult cases including CTO, bifurcation or LMT lesions. I was really tired.
On October 24 Sunday, 2004, I left my home with my wife and younger son at 6:30 AM to Narita International Airport by a taxi to attend the 15th ASEAN Congress of Cardiology as one of the invited guest speakers. I took a JAL flight to Bangkok, Thailand. Since there are many visitors for Bangkok from Japan, at least 7 or 8 direct flights between Tokyo and Bangkok everyday. This visit to Thailand was more than 1 year after the last my visit in August 2003.
ASEAN is “Association of South-East Asian Nations” and includes Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippine, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. ASEAN Congress of Cardiology is held every 4 years in these countries. The last 14th scientific meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in the year of 2000. This 15th meeting this year was held at the Convention Center in Royal Cliff Beach Resort at Pattaya Beach in Thailand.
Pattaya Beach is located south-east and at 150 Km far from Bangkok. We moved there from Bangkok Airport by using a Limousine car on a highway. There were several service areas on the highway, where we could see many tiny restaurants, toilets or shops including Seven Eleven. After 3 hours' drive, we arrived at Royal Cliff Beach Resort Hotel at Pattaya Beach around 4:00 PM.

The meeting is frequently called “ACC”. This-year ACC meeting was hosted by the Circulation Society of Thailand in the year of Queen Sirikit 6th Cycle Birthday.
Pattaya Beach is famous for beautiful beach and scenery. From my room, I could see the beautiful sunset as well as beach. I could see the beautiful beach from my room. However, I had no chance to visit.

October 25 Monday, 2004

I had a lecture on “Angioplasty for AMI and CTO lesions through TRI”. There were several Japanese doctors, with whom I was not familiar, in the meeting. I came up to the auditorium before the schedule. However, the auditorium was vacant. When I did my lecture, there were less than 20 people in the meeting room, and also one of the speakers of that session had cancelled his speech.
Next day, I took the flight back to Japan.

はじめに

私にとって、2004年10月終わりは信じられないくらい忙しいものでした。10月21日、22日と神戸のCCT(Complex Catheter Therapeutics)においていくつかの役割がありました。そして最後の役割はとても重要なものでした。それは、“Government Approval Process for Interventional Devices in China, Japan and USA”という名前のセッションでの座長だったのです。この役目を午後8時に終了し、東京行きの最終午後8時55分発「のぞみ」に新神戸駅から乗りました。最後に鎌倉市の自宅に着いたのはもう10月23日午前1時ぐらいでした。
10月23日には神戸のCCTの会場にライブ症例中継を行いました。私自身、慢性完全閉塞、分岐部、左主幹部などの困難な症例を14例行いましたので、とても疲れました。
翌日24日日曜日に、妻と息子を連れて午前6時30分に成田に向けてタクシーで出発しました。これは、第15回ASEAN心臓病学会に招聘講師として参加するためでした。そしてバンコク行きのJAL便にのりました。日本からタイには多くの人々が訪問するので、少なくとも毎日7から8便の直行便が東京と成田の間を飛んでいます。このタイ訪問は2003年8月の訪問から1年以上ぶりでした。
ASEANは“Association of South-East Asian Nations”のことであり、インドネシア、シンガポール、タイ、フィリピン、マレーシア、ブルネイ、ベトナム、ラオス、ミャンマーの9ｶ国からなります。ASEAN心臓病学会は4年に一回開催され、前回は2000年にマレーシアのクアラルンプールで開催されました。今年の第15回はタイのパタヤにある学会場で開催されました。
パタヤ・ビーチはバンコクの南東150Kmに位置します。我々はリムジンで、バンコク空港から高速道路を移動しました。高速道路には何箇所かサービス・エリアがあり、そこには小さなレストラン、トイレ、さらいはセブン・イレブンなどもあります。3時間ぐらいのドライブの後で、パタヤのホテルに4時頃に到着しました。

この学会はしばしば”ACC”とも呼ばれますが、今回のACCはタイ心臓病学会によって主催されましたが、丁度Sirikit女王様の72歳の誕生年でした。
パタヤ・ビーチは美しいビーチと景色で有名です。私の部屋からは美しい夕日とビーチを見ることが出来ました。部屋から美しいビーチを見ることはできましたが、そこに行く機会はありませんでした。

私は“Angioplasty for AMI and CTO lesions through TRI”という講演をしました。日本人も何人か参加していましたが、知った顔はいませんでした。予定よりも前に会場に到着しましたが、ほとんど人はいませんでした。私が講演をしている時には、会場には20名もいませんでしたし、私のセッションの演者の一人は講演をキャンセルしていました。
翌日日本に帰りました。
