Fado, Fado, Fado
After leaving Amsterdam, I flied to Lisbon,
Portugal. I arrived in Lisbon International Airport around
noon on November 20 Saturday, 2004.
Before arriving at the airport, I could see a beautiful
bridge over Rio Tejo (River Tejo).
I came to Lisbon to listen to Fado, which
is the Portuguese folklore. Fado is characterized by a
sonorous song accompanied by a classical guitar and a
Portuguese guitar. Portuguese guitar is different from
the classical guitar in several aspects. The number of
strings is 12 instead of 6. The strings are made of steal
but not of gut. There is a Fado Museum in the center of
Lisbon.
If we go to Fado Restaurant, we can have
dinner and listen to Fado music. The minimum charge for
Fado is from 12 to 18 Euros. Each Fado music is played
for 20 to 30 minutes every hour. I went to one of the
famous Fado Restaurants “Sehnor Vinho”, which means “Mr.
Wine.” There, I could have stewed octopus, which was cooked
incredibly soft.

Next day, I had city tour. The elevator
for Santa Justa was striking. It was build to go to the
temple “Santa Justa”. From the center of the city, we
can see the old castle of the city “Castelo St. Jorge”.

Because Lisbon is the city on the hill,
there is a cable car. I took a ferry boat to cross the
river Tejo to the small town in the opposite side Cacilhas,
where the famous stature of Jesus Christ is built.

ファド、ファド、ファド
アムステルダムを出発してポルトガルのリスボンに飛びました。リスボン国際空港に着いたのは、2004年11月20日土曜日の正午頃のことでした。空港に到着する前に、テジョ川にかかる美しい橋が見えました。
リスボンに来たのはファドを聴くためです。ファドはポルトガルの民族音楽であり、クラシック・ギターとポルトガル・ギターの伴奏を伴った朗々たる歌が特徴です。ポルトガル・ギターは、通常のギターの6弦に対して12弦あり、しかも弦がガットでなく、鋼製です。リスボンの中心地にはファド博物館があります。
ファド・レストランに行けば、食事と共にファドを聴くことができます。最低料金は12から18ユーロです。ファドは毎時間20から30分間演奏されます。私はファド・レストランの中でも有名な、「酒おやじ」に行きましたが、そこには蛸の煮物がありました。これは信じられないくらい柔らかく煮込まれていました。

翌日は市内観光に出かけました。Santa Justa寺院へのエレベーターは変わっています。このエレベーターはSanta
Justa寺院に行くために造られたのです。街の中心部からは古い城、“Castelo St. Jorge” を見ることができました。

リスボンは丘に作られた街なので、ケーブル・カーがあります。私はテジョ川を渡るフェリーに乗り、対岸のカキラス街に行きました。そこには有名なキリスト像があります。
