Introduction
I exchanged the flight to
Beijing
at
Narita
International
Airport
. The flight was NH 955 departing at 17:25 PM on March 30, 2005. I arrived at
Beijing
Capital
Airport
later than 8:00 PM. By taking a taxi, I directly went to my favorite Sichuan Food Restaurant to have a dinner. We ordered several dishes including fried cabbage, fried shrimp, fried vegetable, fried konjak, fish in oil pod and bottles of beer. Total price for them was less than 2,000 Japanese Yen. After finishing the dinner, I went to the hotel.

March 31 Thursday, 2005
I went to Fuwai National Heart Center by 8:00 AM. My friend Mr. Xubo
arranged 3 difficult cases for me to do PCI that morning. Those patients were originally arranged for
live demonstration during CIT meeting. However, there were too many cases arranged, I was asked to
treat these patients before the beginning of CIT meeting. I finished all of these 3 cases by 11:00 AM
and went to WangLongZhou Seafood Restaurant to have a lunch. Between 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM,
we had a very important meeting. It was the meeting titled “Harmonization by Doing: the policy of China”.
We had 2 officials from SFDA (State Food and Drug Administration of China) to the meeting. They were
Dr. Chang Yongheng and Dr. Hao Heping. I and Dr. Mitchell Krucoff from US and Dr. Gao Runlin from
Fuwai Hospital chaired the session. Dr. Krucoff is Professor in Duke Clinical Research Institute as well as
the member of Cardiovascular Device Panel of US FDA. The discussion was occasionally heated.
Dr. Hao claimed that China was buying 20 to 30 billions US$ of medical devices or drugs from US every year,
although China was exporting only 20 to 30 millions US$ of them to US. Thus, their idea for harmonization was:
1) Chinese market for medical products is already open for US. 2) US FDA has to adopt the clinical trial data
in China for the US approval of medical products made in China. 3) The approval process and regulation of
SFDA are very strict now.
Also, they declared that the basic policy of SFDA for the medical products approval included: 1) It is
most important to guarantee the safety and effectiveness of that product. 2) The product must be easily usable.
3) It s also very important to develop medical device technology in China. This meeting was very wonderful one.
I learnt the firm intention of Chinese Government in the field of medical engineering and pharmacology.
After finishing this session, we had dinner together between 6:00 PM and 7:15 PM.

Welcome Address |
The opening ceremony of CIT 2005 meeting was held from 7:30 PM at the main hall of Beijing International
Convention Center. CIT is China Interventional Therapeutics. The director of the meeting was Professor Gao
Runlin. This year CIT meeting was co-sponsored by TCT, Kamakura Live Demonstration Course, Hong Kong
College of Cardiology, Asian-Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology, and so on. Since I was one of the
co-directors of the meeting, I had to speak a welcome address.
April 1 Friday, 2005
I was one of the discussants of live transmission between 8:00 AM
and 9:30 AM. I sat between Professor Gao and Professor Seung-Jun Park from South Korea. We
had many world famous doctors on the stage such as Dr. Spencer King, Dr. Krucoff, Dr. Gary Mintz,
Dr. Gregg Stone and Dr. Martin Leon..
After finishing this role, I had a duty during the luncheon session for transradial session. The title
of my lecture was “PCI in LMT by transradial approach”. There were several friends of mine in the
meeting room including Dr. Martial Hamon, Dr. Josef Ludwig as well as Dr. John Coppola. TRI is rapidly
getting more and more popular in China. We had many attendants and heated discussions. Next to me,
Professor Yang Yuejing and Dr. Hamon did lectures. According to Dr. Yang’s talk, they had 2,500 PCI
cases last year in Fuwai Hospital, and 50% of those cases were done through the transradial approach.
From 7:30 PM, all of the faculty members were invited to the Faculty Dinner, which was held in DiaoYuTai
State Guest House. The dinner was fantastic.

I went to Fuwai Hospital by 7:30 AM, since I had one case for my
live transmission from 8:30 AM. Before doing my live transmission, I did the lecture titled “PCI for CTO
lesions through transradial approach” by using my computer and an optical fiber transmission. My case
assigned was the patient with a real CTO lesion in the mid circumflex artery. Following my lecture, I started
from the right radial artery puncture. I took a 6 French EBU 3.75 guiding catheter. By using the double
guidewire technique, I was successful to open this occlusion and put a China-made drug eluting stent
Firebird in the lesion..
After finishing this live transmission, I visited Beijing Friendship Hospital to meet my friend Professor
Jia Sanqing. We talked about many things. After having lunch, I hurried to Beijing International Airport to
take the return flight to Japan of NH 906 departing at 2:45 PM and arrived around 7:00 PM.

April 3 Sunday, 2005
We had another duty on this Sunday for CIT 2005 meeting. That was
live transmission from ShonanKamakura General Hospital to Beijing via satellite. The live transmission
was scheduled between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM. Since there is one hour time difference, the actual transmission
time was from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. We arranged 7 cases for the day and started PCI from 8:00 AM. During the
assigned interval, I could transmit 2 difficult cases from TRI. The 1st case was a patient with a real CTO lesion
in the mid LAD. I was successful to open this lesion again by using the double guidewire technique. The 2nd case
had diffuse lesion in LAD and significant narrowing in the distal left main artery. I did the crush-stenting technique
for this left main bifurcation lesion by using a 7 French guiding catheter. Finally my schedule during CIT 2005 meeting
came to the end.
