Short Visiting of Beijing

I flied to Beijing Capital International Airport from Narita on JL 781 flight departing at 10:20 AM on November 3 Thursday, 2005 to attend the 16th Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology meeting as the oldest Faculty member from Japan. This year, the meeting was far expanded. There were several new faces from Japan participating as Faculty members. I am only one member from Japan for the Organizing Committee Chairmen for the Great Wall meeting.

I checked in Beijing Grand Hyatt Hotel, which is located near WangFuJing Street and in DongFang Market Place. One of the major objectives for me this time was to see one of my friends Dr. Jia Sanqing. I had dinner with Xubo and several physicians from Beijing Friendship Hospital at WangLongZhou Seafood Restaurant near Beijing International Convention Center. There were many live fishes, crabs or lobsters swimming in small fishponds.

We ordered many things including an Emperor Crab, Red Grupa fish as well as Knocked Cucumber Salad and Hot and Sour Chinese Salad. I was happy to see those best friends of mine as Drs. Jia Sanqing, Xubo, Wang and Zhao Min (Jenifer).

I left my hotel at 7:15 AM for Beijing Friendship Hospital to do live case transmission to the 2nd Auditorium of Beijing International Convention Center, where the 4th Beijing International Transradial Coronary Intervention Live Demonstration Course was held as a part of the Great Wall meeting. The live demonstration was initiated with the opening remark by Dr. Jia Sanqing and followed by my live cases. The 1st case had triple vessel disease. I finally placed 5 Firebird DES, which is a kind of Sirolimus-Eluting stent made in China. The case was so severe that all of the moderators from China were breathtaking for the thrilling procedures by using a 6 French guiding catheter through the right radial approach. Finally, moderators made a comment. It was “We do not need to go abroad to see the skillful procedures. All of you can see the most skillful procedures here by Dr. Saito.” After this case, I did a lecture on TRI from the hospital.

The 2nd case was also very severe. This more than 80 years old patient with renal dysfunction was in unstable angina. His right coronary artery was totally blocked chronically. His major problem this time was an almost totally blocked ostial LAD lesion. I again took a 6 French right radial approach. Finally, I placed 3 Firebirds DES stents in the left main, LAD and LCX.

While doing my 3rd case, Dr. Ferdinand Kiemeneij arrived in the catheter laboratory directly from the Airport. He just arrived in Beijing in the morning. I finished total of 5 cases all from the radial approach in the morning.

After having lunch in the restaurant next to the hospital, I moved to the Convention Center. The exhibition of the meeting was much more luxury than the past. I joined the evening TRI session between 5:00 and 6:00 PM as one of the speaker together with Dr. Yang YueJin (Beijing Fuwai Hospital), Dr. Zhou Yujie (Beijing Anzhen Hospital) and Dr. Jing Quanmin (Shenyang Beifang Hospital). The session was very successful. One of the strong Radialists in China Dr. Fu XiangHua (The 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Hebei Medical University) also joined the session.

November 4 Saturday 2005

I waked up early and walked out to WangFuJing Street, which is the symbolic market street in Beijing like Ginza in Tokyo or 5th Avenue in New York. It was foggy outside. Not so many people were waling around.

After having lunch, I took the return flight of JL 782, which arrived in Narita before 8:00 PM on November 4 Saturday. I was really satisfied to see Dr. Jia Sanqing, who is one of my most valuable friends in the world.

短い北京訪問

2005年11月3日木曜日10:20AM成田発のJL 781便で北京首都空港に向かいました。こ れは、第16回長城国際心臓病学会に日本で一番昔からのFacultyとして参加するためです。今 年はこの会はとても拡大し、いつもはいない日本のメンバーもたくさん参加していました。でも、 私がこの学会の組織委員会の唯一の日本人メンバーです。

Grand Hyattホテルにチェック・インしました。このホテルは王府井の東方市場にありま す。今回の私の大きな目的は、友人のJia先生と再会することでした。北京国際会議場近くの海 鮮料理、万龍州でXuboや北京友誼病院の先生方と夕食を摂りました。たくさんの生きた魚、蟹、 あるいはロブスターがいました。

皇帝蟹、赤ハタ、あるいはキュウリのサラダ、中国サラダなどを取り寄せ、皆で食べまし た。Jia先生、Xubo、Wang先生、Jiniferと再会できてとても幸せでした。

朝7:15にホテルを出て、北京友誼病院にライブデモンストレーションを行うために出かけ ました。ここから北京国際会議場の第二講堂で開かれている第4回北京国際経橈骨動脈冠動脈 インターベンションライブデモンストレーションの会場にライブ症例を飛ばすのです。まず、 8:00からJia先生の開会の挨拶があり、続いて私の第一症例を行いました。この症例は3枝病 変であり、5個の中国製Sirolimus溶出性ステントFirebirdを植え込んで終了しました。とて も難しい症例であり、6Frのガイディング・カテーテルを用いて右TRIで行った手技に、会場 の皆はワクワクし、最後のコメントも「こんなに齋藤先生が上手にPCIを行うのをここで見ら れるのだから、誰も外国に行く必要はないですね」と、素晴らしいものでした。この症例の後、 病院から会場に講演をしました。

二例目はとても重症でした。80歳で腎機能も低下した不安定狭心症の患者さんです。右冠 動脈は慢性完全閉塞であり、左冠動脈前下行枝は入口部からほとんど完全閉塞でした。右橈骨動 脈から6Frガイディング・カテーテルを用いました。最終的に3個のFirebirdステントを左主 幹部、LAD、LCX近位部に植え込みました。

三例目を行っていると、Kiemeneij先生が直接空港から到着されました。その朝、北京空港 に到着されたのです。結局この日の午前中に私は5例の症例を全例TRIで行いました。

病院の隣の食堂で昼ごはんを食べてから、学会場に移動しました。展示場はとても豪華にな っていました。夕方5時から6時までTRIセッションがあり、そこに講演者として、Yang先生、 Zhou先生、Jing先生達と共に参加しました。このセッションはとてもうまくいきました。Fu 先生も参加されていました。

朝早く起床し、王府井に歩いていきました。ここは東京で言えば銀座、ニューヨークで言え ば五番街です。外は霧であまり多くの人はいませんでした。

昼食を食べてから、JL 782便で東京に戻りました。成田到着はかれこれ夜の8時となって いました。今回、Jia先生のお元気な姿を見れてとても嬉しく思いました。
