Tough Cases in Beijing

I performed PCI in 3 difficult cases in Tokyo University Hospital on January 14 Saturday 2006 during the live demonstration course of the 4th Tokyo Central Circulation Forum. It was really shocking for me to do live cases in Tokyo University Hospital on Saturday. We could never imagine that scheduled PCI could be performed on Saturday in such a Government National University Hospital as Tokyo University Hospital. I flied to Beijing by taking NH 905 flight from Tokyo next day on January 15 Sunday 2006. This time, I stayed in Swiss Hotel Beijing.

January 16 Monday 2006

I visited Fuwai Hospital from early morning. Professor Yang Yuejin welcomed me. He is very busy. Very difficult cases with CTO lesions were prepared for me. I was not successful in 4 cases. In Fuwai Hospital, they had 3,282 PCI cases and more than 1,000 CABG cases in the year of 2005. It is a really big increasing in China. When I first visited Fuwai Hospital in 1991, the total number of PCI cases from the beginning all around China was only 500 cases. In parallel to the increase in case numbers, TRI cases were growing to shorten the hospital stay of the patients. In more than 70 % of PCI cases, TRI is used in Fuwai Hospital. I had dinner with the catheter laboratory director Xubo and discussed about the coming CIT 2006 meeting.

In Beijing, there is another hospital, where 3,079 PCI cases were performed in the year of 2005. That is Anzhen Hospital. Actually when visited Beijing first time in 1991, I visited this hospital and did my 1st case of PCI in China. Since the X-ray machine in Beijing Medical University Hospital was broken, we transferred the patients to Anzhen Hospital, and I performed PCI there.

First, I met with the Director of Cardiology, Professor Lu ShuZheng. They have several different teams doing PCI in Anzhen Hospital. This time, I visited Professor Zhou Yujie. He is a strong TRI operator in Beijing as well as Professor Yang Yuejin in Fuwai Hospital. He has many Government high-class officials as his patients. He kindly took me to the dinner restaurant with him by driving his own nice car. We had a wonderful dinner.

I visited Beijing Friendship Hospital to see Professor Jia Sanqing. He is always very kind. He is truly one of my best friends. I flied back to Japan by taking NH 906 flight in the afternoon.

北京での難しい症例

2006年1月14日土曜日に東京大学病院でとても難しいPCIを3例行いました。これは、 第四回東京中央循環器フォーラムのライブデモンストレーションの一環として行われました。で も、土曜日に予定のPCIを東大病院のような国立大学病院で行うことができるなんて、とても 想像できませんでした。そして、翌日の2006年1月15日日曜日のNH 905便で北京首都空港 に向かいました。今回は北京スイス・ホテルに泊まりました。

朝早くに阜外病院を訪れました。Yang先生が出迎えて下さいました。彼は立場上とても忙 しい人です。とても困難なCTO症例が用意されていました。この中の4例でうまくいきません でした。阜外病院では2005年一年間に3,282例のPCIと1,000例以上のCABGが行われまし た。私が1991年に始めて阜外病院を訪問した時には、まだ中国全土で通算500例しかPCIが 行われていなかったことを考えると、何と言う急速な増加でしょう。症例数の増加と共に、阜外 病院ではTRIの頻度も増加し、2005年には70%以上がTRIで治療されました。これは入院期 間短縮のためです。その日は、カテ室チーフのXuboと夕食を摂り、CIT 2006の打ち合わせを しました。

北京には2005年一年間に3,079例のPCIを行った病院がもう一つあります。それが安貞 病院です。1991年に初めて北京を訪れた時に実はこの病院に来て私の中国最初のPCIを行いま した。北京医科大学病院のシネが壊れたため、患者さんをこの病院に移送し治療したのです。

最初に循環器科主任のLu教授にお会いしました。安貞病院にはいくつかのチームがあり PCIを行っています。今回は、Zhou先生を訪問しました。彼もYang先生と並んで北京のとて も強力なTRI術者です。患者さんには北京市政府の高官もたくさんおられます。彼はご自分の 運転する車で私を夕食に連れて行ってくださいました。

Jia先生に会いに北京友誼病院を訪れました。彼はいつもとても親切です。本当の友人の一 人です。その日の午後NH 906便で日本に帰国しました。
