Visiting Korea after 7 Months

It was surprising also for me that I had not been to Korea for 7 months. Taking the 1st flight from Haneda to Gimpo (NH 1291), I visited Seoul on April 25 Tuesday 2006. After checking in the hotel, I directly moved to Samsung Medical Center. Dr. Gwon was planning to have Practical Angioplasty Review Course in June. However, the planned schedule was unfortunately conflicting with the dates of the Japanese Society of Interventional Cardiology meeting. Dr. Gwon proposed me to record my procedures in VTR before and show during the PAR meeting. Dr. Gwon arranged me 2 cases. Both patients had the left main bifurcation diseases. I treated these patients by placing 2 CYPHER stents with stent crushing technique. We had dinner in a seafood restaurant. The hot pod with fishes was so nice.

April 26 Wednesday 2006

Professor Seung-Jun Park is holding the world-famous meeting “Angioplasty Summit” every year in the end of April. Two thousands from the foreign countries joined the meeting this year. Many Japanese physicians are also visiting the meeting. As one of the co-directors of the meeting, I came to the auditorium in Sheraton Walker Hill Hotel by 8:30 AM. After finishing my roles, I hurried to Seoul Station to take a KTX super-express train to Daegue. Because of the heavy traffic within Seoul City, it took 1 and half hours from the meeting place to the station. I could take the train departing at 20:30 PM, which reached Daegu Station at 22:30. It was almost 11:00 PM when I could check in Inter-Bulgo Hotel.

April 27 Thursday 2006

I waked up very early in the morning. From the window of my room, I could see the beautiful scenery of a river. I had a breakfast of Blow Fish Pod in a 24-hours’ restaurant in front of Daegu Catholic University Medical Center.

Professor Kim Kee-Sik moved to this hospital 6 months ago and set up the catheter laboratories. Angioplasty Summit 2006 was planning to have live case transmissions from Daegu Catholic University Medical Center from 9:30 to 10:00 AM and from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. I and Professor Kim were the operators for these live transmissions, which were focused on TRI. Dr. Kim arranged me several cases. Because Dr. Kim arranged everything very comfortably to me, we could finish these live transmissions very smoothly. After finishing everything, we moved to a Blow Fish Restaurant near Daegu Station. We enjoyed Sashimi of Blow Fish and drinking there.

After finishing lunch, we moved to Seoul by taking KTX train together.

April 28 Friday 2006

After I finished my role in the auditorium as one of the chair persons for a case presentation session between 10:30 and 11:30 AM, I went to Manta Theatre. Manta is a famous show, which is a kind of cooking acrobat show and famous since 10 years ago. Although I have been to Seoul many times, I have not experienced this fantastic show. Manta Theatre is locating just behind the US Embassy. The show started from 4:00 PM. I enjoyed it. After finishing enjoying show, I had dinner with Korean friends in KwangDong Seafood Restaurant, where we can have nice and fresh living seafood by low prices. After finishing the dinner, we moved to a Japanese drinking and cooking bar and restaurant near the ChongDam Intersection. Its name is “Mitaya”, where we can enjoy nice food and drinking in Japanese fashion. I found a pretty Korean girl there. I was really surprised to hear her Japanese accent, which was perfectly natural of Japanese.

April 29 Saturday 2006

By taking the 1st flight from Gimpo to Haneda (OZ 1025), I returned to Tokyo. I directly moved to Misawa from Haneda Airport to join the opening ceremony of Hachinohe Heart Center Clinic. Then, I came back home finally later than 11:30 PM. I have had unfortunately no chance to visit Korea for many months. I again understand that I love Korea.

7ヶ月ぶりの韓国

何と7ヶ月も韓国を訪れていなかったというのは驚きです。羽田発金浦行きの始発便 (NH 1291)に乗り、2006年4月25日火曜日にソウルに入りました。ホテルにチェック・イ ンしてから、サムソン病院に向いました。Gwon先生は6月にPARという学会を開催して いるのですが、残念なことに今年は日本心血管インターベンション学会総会とぶつかりま した。このため、会で放映するビデオ症例を事前に収録することになりました。Gwon先生 は2例準備されましたが、両症例とも左主幹部分岐部症例であり、私はクラッシュで CYPHERを植え込みました。夕食は魚料理の店でとりましたが、メウンタンはとてもおい しかったです。

Park先生は毎年4月に有名なAngioplasty Summitという学会を開催されます。今年 は外国から2,000名が参加されたそうです。日本からもたくさんの医師が参加します。私 は、この学会のCo-Directorの一人ですので、シェラトン・ホテルの会場に8:30 AMまで には到着しました。いくつかの役目を終えてから、ソウル駅に急ぎました。ソウル市内の 交通渋滞はとてもひどいので、会場からソウル駅まで行くのに1時間半ぐらいかかってし まいました。大邱行きKTX 8:30 PM発に乗りました。大邱駅に到着したのは10:30 PMで あり、Inter-Bulgoホテルに到着したのは11:00 PMとなっていました。

朝早く起きました。部屋の窓からは綺麗な川の景色が見えました。大邱カトリック大学 病院前にある24時間営業の食堂でふぐ鍋の朝食を摂りました。

Kim教授は半年前にこの病院に移動され、カテ室を立ち上げました。今年の Angioplasty Summitではこの病院から9:30 AM ? 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM ? 11:30 AMとラ イブデモンストレーションを飛ばすことになっていました。私とKim先生で行いました。 Kim先生は色々と私が快適に手技をできるようにアレンジされていましたので、スムーズ に終わりました。終了後、駅前のふく屋さんに行き昼食を摂りました。ふぐの刺身はとて もおいしいものでした。

昼食を終えてから一緒にKTXでソウルに戻りました。

症例呈示セッションでの座長を10:30 ? 11:30 AM行ってから、マンタ劇場に行きまし た。マンタというのは有名なショーで、10年ぐらい前からやっている一種の料理ショーで す。マンタ劇場は米国大使館の裏にありました。ショーは4:00 PMから始まりました。こ のショーを見てから、関東水産で夕食を摂りました。ここでは新鮮な美味しい生きた魚を 安く食べることができます。その後、友人とチョンダム交差点の近くにある「三田屋」と いう居酒屋に行きました。ここは日本の居酒屋です。そこで、かわいい韓国人の女性に会 いました。全く自然の日本語を話すことができるのでとても驚きました。

金浦発羽田行き第一便OZ 1025に乗り東京に戻りました。そのまま羽田から三沢空港 に飛びました。そして、八戸ハートセンター・クリニックの開院式に参加しました。自宅 に戻ったのはもう11:30 PMとなっていました。この7ヶ月間も韓国を訪れる機会が無かっ たのはとても残念です。韓国のこととても好きなことを実感しました。
