Very short trip to Tunisia

I was invited by the 7th Panafrican Course on Interventional Cardiology (PAFCIC 2006) as an operator and a lecturer, which was held between September 14th and 16th in Monastir, Tunisia. My 1st participation in the meeting was on October 6th, 2004. Although my schedule was very tight especially just before the CCT meeting, I had to join the meeting, since I cancelled to join it last year.

I flew to Paris first by NH 205 flight departing at 11:25 on September 15th Friday 2006. More than 4 hours’ transit in CDG Airport, I took the AF 1684 flight to Tunis. The flight arrived in the Tunis Cartago International Airport around 0:00 AM midnight on September 16th Saturday. A car was waiting for our arrival. The car took me to the Emir Palace Hotel in Monastir after 2 hours’ driving, where the convention was held. I checked in the hotel later than 2:00 AM.

Next morning, I waked up early and had breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The hotel is built near beautiful sea coast within the resort area. It would be very difficult to find any restaurant or coffee shop around this area except those within the hotels. The breakfast was luxurious and rich in fresh vegetables.

The convention was held in an auditorium within the hotel. Those famous physicians as Dr. Patrick Serruys from the Netherlands, Dr. Jean Marco from Toulouse, Drs. Peter Block and Augusto Pichard from USA also joined the meeting as Guest Faculty members. I came to the auditorium by 8:30 AM, since my lecture on CTO was supposed to start from 9:30 AM. However, there were few people sitting and the proceedings of the meeting were behind the schedule. I quickly finished my presentation around 10:00 AM and moved to Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital of Monastir. One patient with a CTO lesion in the proximal LAD was arranged for me. I tried to cross the lesion by using antegrade or retrograde approach with different kinds of stiff guidewires. However, the lesion was unable to cross. I quit the procedure.

Professor Habib Gamra, who is the Course Director of the meeting, took me back to the hotel by 13:00. Since the departure time of my returning flight was 17:45 from Tunis, I quickly took a car without having lunch. Because we had time, the car driver kindly took me to the short sightseeing in Cartago, where is near Tunis. Cartago has a city of history. Since the area is beautiful, many rich people including the President of Tunisia are living in this area now.

Flying by Alitalia Airline AZ 0819 departing at 17:45 on September 16 Saturday 2006, I moved to Milan, where I exchanged my flight to JL 0418 after 1 hour transit time. Finally, I arrived in Tokyo around 4:00 PM on September 17 Sunday 2006. It was very short and hard trip to Tunisia. I had to prepare for the coming CCT meeting between September 21st and 23rd.

とても短いチュニジア訪問

今回は、第7回PAFCIC 2006学会から術者および講演者として招聘されました。この 学会はチュニジアのMonastirで2006年9月14日から16日開催されました。この学会に 最初に参加したのは2004年10月6日のことでした。CCTの前で忙しかったのですが、何 しろ前年の学会参加をキャンセルした手前、何としても参加せねばなりませんでした。

2006年9月15日金曜日11:25 AM発のNH 205便でまずパリに向いました。そこで4 時間待ちの後で、チュニス行きのAF 1684便に乗り換えました。飛行機はチュニス・カル タゴ国際空港に16日午前0時過ぎに到着しました。そこから迎えの自動車で2時間かけて MonastirのEmir Palaceホテルに向かいました。従いましてチェック・インは2:00 AM過 ぎでした。

翌朝早く起き、ホテルの中のレストランで朝食を食べました。ホテルは美しい海岸沿い のリゾート地域に建っています。この地域でホテルの中のレストラン以外でレストランや 喫茶店を見つけるのは不可能です。朝食は豪華でたくさんの新鮮な野菜がありました。

学会はホテルの中の講堂で開催されました。学会にはSerruys先生、Marco先生、Peter Block先生、Pichard先生などの有名な先生方も参加されていました。自分のCTOに関す る発表が9:30 AMからの予定でしたので、8:30 AMには会場に行ったのですが、あまり人 がおりませんでした。また、進行も遅れていました。自分の発表を10:00 AM頃にさっさと 済ませてから、FB大学病院に向いました。LAD近位部のCTO症例が用意されていました。 この患者さんに対して、順行性あるいは逆行性アプローチを色々の種類のガイドワイヤー を用いて行ったのですが、全く歯が立たず、終了しました。

Habib Gamra教授はこの学会の会長ですが、彼がホテルまで車で送って下さいました。 もう13:00でしたが、昼食も摂らずにチュニスに車で出発しました。チュニスでは少し時 間があったので、運転手さんが近郊のカルタゴの街を案内して下さいました。カルタゴは 歴史のある街ですが、現在は美しい景色のために金持ちがたくさん住んでいる地域です。 チュニジア大統領もここに住んでいます。

2006年9月16日土曜日17:45発のアリタリア航空AX 0819便に乗り、ミラノに向か い、そこで1時間のトランジットの後、JL 0418便に乗り換えました。結局2006年9月 17日日曜日4:00 PM頃に東京に戻りました。とても短く過酷なチュニジアの旅でした。9 月21日から23日開催のCCT 2006のために準備に入らねばなりませんでした。
