My PCI activities in China for the past 15 years

I flew to Beijing by JL 781 flight on November 2nd Thursday 2006 to participate in the 17th Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology (GW-ICC), which is the Scientific meeting and live demonstration course in Cardiology of the longest history in China and held by Professor Hu DaYi. I arrived in Beijing around 13:30 and moved to Swisstel Beijing Hotel. I am the oldest Faculty member from Japan for this meeting since it was just only 2nd or 3rd, after I first visited Beijing to do live demonstration of PCI in December 1991.

This year, I was informed that I would be awarded for my long contribution to develop PCI in China for many years during the meeting. The ceremony took place in the evening of the day in the main hall in Beijing International Convention Center (BICC). I was awarded on the stage together with Dr. Steven Nissen, Dr. Ferdinand Kiemeneij and several other physicians. I honored myself for how far I had been.

Dr. Doumae, who is one of my colleagues, came to Beijing to study for 1 month from November 1st. We had dinner with him, Dr. Wang and Jennifer.

November 3rd Friday 2006

I arrived at Beijing Friendship Hospital by 7:30 AM. I achieved 1-year temporal medical license in Beijing, which can be extended almost automatically forever, the title of co-director of heart center at Friendship Hospital and the honorary professor at Capital Medical University of Beijing as well. The awarding ceremony for these titles was held from 8:10 AM. Two presidents of the hospital gave me the certificates. The ceremony itself was transmitted to the main hall at BICC. Actually, that transmission was the opening for the GW-ICC meeting this year. The hall was fully occupied by many physicians.

After finishing the ceremony, I quickly moved to the catheter laboratory and started the 5th Beijing International Transradial Coronary Intervention Live Demonstration Course held by Professor Jia Sanqing. I did 3 difficult cases through TRI and finished my role by 10:30 AM quickly. Everything was transmitted to the main hall of BICC. Again, the seats were fully occupied.

Following my live transmission, Ferdinand did live transmissions. Since I had to fly back to Japan via Kansai Airport to Naha, Okinawa in order to participate in Kyusyu Transradial Symposium, I had to leave the hospital by 12:00 noon.

Professor Jia, who is one of my best Chinese friends, is sick. However, he is fighting against the disease. He really did great job for me to achieve several important titles in China this time. I visited him and reported that I could achieve those titles. I promised in my mind that I would do whatever I could do for him.

After having short lunch in the airport, I took JL 786 flight to Kansai and could reach Naha around 9:00 PM on November 3rd. This short visit in Beijing has a lot of meanings in my life.

15年間におよぶ私の中国でのPCI

JL 781便に乗り、2006年11月2日木曜日、第17回長城心臓病学会(GW-ICC)に参加する ため北京に向かいました。学界は北京国際会議場(BICC)で開催されました。この学会は中国で もっとも古くから開催されている心臓病の学会でライブデモンストレーションも含みます。会長 は胡　教授です。北京には13:30頃到着し、Swisstelホテルにチェック・インしました。私が 最初にPCIのため北京を訪れた1991年12月の後から、まだこの学会が第2回か3回の時から 私はこの学会の役員をしています。

今年は、これまで中国のPCI発展に貢献してきた人々の表彰式が開催されると連絡を受け ていました。その式典はBICCのメイン・ホールがその日の夕方開催されました。私は壇上で Nissen先生やKiemeneij先生たちと共に表証されました。こんな所まで来たんだ、と自分を誉 めました。

堂前君は僕の部下ですが、11月から一ヶ月間勉強のために北京に来ています。彼を交えて 王先生、そしてJenniferと夕食を摂りました。

7:30 AMには北京友誼病院に着きました。私は北京市の1年間の医師免許を取得しました。 この免許は自動的に延長されます。さらに、友誼病院心臓センター副センター長、そして首都医 科大学客員教授の称号を頂きました。これらの表彰式が二人の院長先生を交え、8:10 AMから 執り行われました。この模様は今年のGW-ICC開会のしょっぱなに大ホールに中継され、満員 の中国のお医者さんの前に公開されました。

この表彰式が済んでから、すぐにカテ室に入りました。そして、Jia先生が主催される第5 回北京国際TRIライブデモンストレーションを開催しました。私は、3例の難しい症例をTRI で素早くこなし、10:30 AMには終了しました。この模様は満員のBICC大ホールに中継されま した。

私に続いてFerdinandがライブデモンストレーションを行いました。私は、九州トランス ラディアル研究会に参加するため、関西空港経由で那覇まで移動せねばなりませんでした。この ため、12:00 正午には出ていなければなりませんでした。

Jia先生は私の親友の一人ですが、今病気です。でも病気と闘っています。彼は今回私が色々 な称号を獲得できるように大変に働きかけて下さいました。私は彼と会い、無事色々な称号を得 たことを報告しました。自分で彼のためには出来ることを何でもする、と誓いました。

空港で短い昼食を済ませてから、JL 786便で関西空港に向かいました。そして、その日の 9:00 PM頃に那覇に到着しました。今回の北京訪問はまた短いものでしたが、私の人生の中で とても重要なものでした。
