The name of the SUSHI restaurant was “Haru”, which means “Spring” in Japanese. A Japanese chef was making SUSHI. The level of the food was much better than the average. A big dog was quietly sitting on the floor within the restaurant. Any customer can take his/her pet animal in the restaurant. The dog was so smart to eat SUSHI from my hand.
December 1st Friday 2006
I moved to the Friedrich-Alexander clinic of Erlangen-Nuremberg University at 7:30 AM with Josef. We held the 2nd Transradial Workshop there. This year, we had participants from not only Germany but also from Canada, Turkey and Middle East. After taking a photo for teaching staffs, Professor Werner G. Daniel made an opening remark. Total of 13 participants were divided in 3 groups. Each group share the operation watching in Cath Labo #3 (by myself), in Cath Labo #1 (by Josef) and Lecture by Professor Stephan Achenbach. Each group changes its turn every 2 hours.

I worked in Cath Labo #3 from the morning, where Siemens flat panel machine was installed. My assistant physician was Professor Frank Flachskampf. Because this was transradial workshop, I did all of the 7 cases through the transradial approach. I started from the radial artery puncture. Participating physicians watched at my procedures throughout from the puncture to the hemostasis. Two cases had chronic total occlusions. Fortunately, I could open those lesions by using the combinations of my techniques. One of my cases had severe triple vessel disease. I could fix it.

During late lunch time, I delivered a lecture titled “Dr. Saito’s Approach to Bifurcations”. After finishing the lunch, we continued the workshop by 4:00 PM.
From December 1st to 24th, there is a world-famous Christmas market held in Nuremberg. After taking short rest in the hotel, I checked out the hotel. Josef kindly took me the market. Initially, I could not understand what Josef was talking. He said, “X mas market” instead of “Christmas market”. I later knew that “X mas” was popular saying.

The market was clouded with many people. Most of them looked German. First we ate Nuremberg Hot Dog. It was wonderful in taste. Of course, we drank famous hot wine. It was funny. After walking around the market, we dropped in a Beer Restaurant. There we drank several glasses of Beer. After enjoying the Christmas market, I moved to Munich by a limousine car again on 200 Km and reached Le Meridian Hotel Munich in front of Munich Central Station around 11:00 PM. It was a really nice day. Thanks to Josef.

December 2nd Saturday 2006
Before flying to Israel, I had on free day in Munich. After having lunch in a Japanese restaurant “Kaito”, I enjoyed a tour in German Technology Museum, where I found a submarine “U-Boat”, torpedo or a jet fighter “Messerschmitt Me-163”, which were used during the World War II. Everything was interesting for me.

There was another X-mas market in Munich, which was held in the plaza in front of New City Hall. After leaving the museum, I went to the market. Many people were walking around. Again, I drank hot wine and took Munich sausages. Interestingly, I found a rotating SUSHI restaurant around the market.

|
The famous beer hall “HofBrauHaus” was very crowded. Many people were drinking a lot of glasses of beer. I tried to sit there. However, it was too crowded. I left the place.

|
Finally, I moved to a Japanese restaurant “Kicho”, where I could have nice Japanese food and Sake. Also, I met a beautiful young Japanese lady there. She was in Munich for the past 10 years. Since her walking figure looked very nice, I got an idea. I asked her, “Perhaps, you are studying Ballet, since your posture is so nice?” She answered me, “Definitely!” Anyway, it was lucky for me to meet such a beautiful Japanese lady in Munich.

ErlangenでのTRIワークショップ
2006年11月30日木曜日12:30発のNH 209便でドイツに飛びました。フランクフルト空 港に着いたのは同日16:30でした。そこではLudwig教授がアレンジして下さったリムジンが待 っていました。200 Kmの行程を2時間かけて「アウトバーン」を走り、ErlangenのNHホテ ルにチェック・インしました。このホテルは確か去年はNovotelでした。昨年と異なり、今年 はインターネット接続が快適でした。Josef Ludwigがホテルのバーで私を待っておられました。 私たちはErlangenの日本料理屋で夕食を摂ることにしました。

その寿司屋さんの名前は「春」と言いました。日本人の板さんが寿司を握っていました。食 事のレベルは平均よりも上でした。お客さんが犬などのペットを見せに連れて入ることが許され ています。一匹の犬が床におとなしく座っていました。私の手からこの犬はお寿司を食べました。 何て賢いのでしょう。

7:30 AMにJosefと一緒に、Erlangen-Nuremberg大学Friedrich-Alexander病院に出かけ ました。ここで第二回TRIワークショップを開いたのです。今年は、ドイツ国内からのみでな く、カナダ、トルコ、中東からも参加者がありました。まずスタッフの写真を撮ってから、Daniel 教授が開会の言葉を述べられました。参加者は全員で13名でしたが、これを3つのグループに 分け、カテ室No.3 (私が手技)、カテ室No. 1 (Josefが手技)そして講義(Stephanが担当)をそれ ぞれ2時間ずつ回るというものでした。

私は朝からカテ室No.3で手技をしました。ここにはシーメンスのフラット・パネル・マシ ンが入っています。私の助手はFrankがしました。何たってTRIワークショップですので、7 例の症例全例をTRIで行いました。橈骨動脈穿刺から開始し、参加者は穿刺から止血まで全て の手技を見ることができます。2例の症例はCTO病変がありましたが、幸にも私の持てるテク ニックを組み合わせてうまく開けることに成功しました。一例は、とてもひどい3枝病変でし たが、うまく治療できました。

遅い昼食時には、私の「分岐部病変に対する齋藤 滋のやり方」という講義を行いました。 昼食を終えてから、4:00 PMまでワークショップを続けました。
Nurembergでは12月1日から24日まで世界的にも有名なクリスマス・マーケットが開催 されます。ホテルで少し休み、チェック・アウトしてから、Josefと一緒にこのクリスマス・マ ーケットに行きました。最初、彼が「エックスマス・マーケット」と呼ぶので何を言っているの か分かりませんでした。すぐに、クリスマスのことをエックスマスと呼ぶのが普通だと知りまし た。

マーケットはたくさんの人で混んでいました。ほとんどの人はドイツ人でした。まず、 Nurembergホットドッグを食べ、それから有名なホット・ワインを飲みました。どれもとても 美味しかったし、楽しかったです。それから、ビア・レストランに入りました。そこで、何杯も ビールを飲みました。とても楽しく過ごしました。それから、また200 Kmかけて車でミュン ヘンに移動し、中央駅前のメリディアン・ホテルに着いたのは11:00 PMを回っていました。と ても楽しい一日でした。Josefありがとう。

イスラエルに飛ぶ前に一日ミュンヘンで自由な日ができました。日本料理屋「海斗」で昼食 を摂ってから、ドイツ科学技術博物館に行きました。ここには、第二次大戦で活躍した、潜水艦 U-Boat、魚雷、あるいはジェット戦闘機Me-163などが展示してありました。どれもとても興 味深いものでした。

ミュンヘンでもクリスマス・マーケットが開催されていました。場所は、新市庁舎前の広場 でした。博物館の後、そこに向かいました。たくさんの人々で賑わっていました。また、ホット・ ワインを飲み、ソーセージを食べました。何と、この近くで回転寿司を見つけました。

|
有名な「HofBrauHaus」というビアホールはとても混んでいました。たくさんの人々がた くさんのビールを飲んでいました。そこに座ろうとしましたが、混んでいたので場所を換えるこ とにしました。

|
最後に、日本料理「喜丁」に行きました。そこで美味しい料理とお酒を飲みました。そこに は、一人の若い綺麗な日本人女性が働いていました。彼女はミュンヘンにもう10年間住んでい るそうです。彼女の歩く姿がとても綺麗でしたので、きっとそうだ、と思いました。「姿勢がと ても綺麗だけど、ひょっとしてバレーを勉強している?」と、聞いたところ、「ドンピシャ」と、 言われました。最後にミュンヘンで彼女のような綺麗な日本人女性に出会えてとてもラッキーで した。
