I left Narita Airport by JL 417 flight for Milan departing at 13:20 on April 9 Monday 2007 and changed the flight to Alitalia Airline AZ 538 flight. I reached Belgrade very late on the same day. The hotel was Best Western Hotel M, which was same with last year. It is not a gorgeous hotel, but the stay there is very convenient. Internet connection is very fast. Next day, after visiting the Clinical Center of Belgrade, I joined the welcome dinner at a local Serbian food restaurant.

The opening ceremony was held in an auditorium within the hotel from 8:00 AM. I sat before the front table with Dr. Antonio Colombo, Dr. Ge Junbo, Dr. Antonie Lafont, Dr. Alexander Doganov, Dr. Samuel Mathew and Serbian doctors.

I did a welcome speech with Professor Miodrag Ostojic. The auditorium was full by participants. After finishing the opening ceremony, we moved to the Clinical Center of Belgrade to do live case transmission.

After finishing several live cases with CTO lesions, I returned to the hotel to deliver a lecture on PCI for CTO lesions. There were a lot of policemen on the way. A domestic soccer game was scheduled to be held in a stadium near the hotel.

|
Welcome reception was held by the Prince Alexander and Princess Katherine at the Royal Palace from 7:30 PM. Japanese Ambassador of Serbia Mr. Nagai also joined the reception. He can speak fluently not only English or Russian but also Serbian language. I was impressed to know that people from Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs were working hard in many foreign countries for Japanese people and Japan. There was an awarding ceremony for people, who had contributed a lot to the development of Interventional Cardiology in Serbia.

I was asked to do a difficult case in the morning. After finishing this case, Dr. Ostojic and Dr. Milan Nedeljkovic kindly arranged a city tour by a taxi. The driver took me to Mount Alava not far from the center of the city. There was a big monument at the top of the mountain, which had a bullet hole created during the last war.

After the mountain, we had lunch at a local Serbian restaurant. Then, he took me to an old convent just behind a hill, where the central information center of Yugoslavian army used to be located under the ground. During the NATO attack several years ago, US bombers tried to attack the center by using ping-point one-ton banker buster bombs. However, the shield was so strong that even such strong bombs could make faint vibration on the center. However, because the convent was near the mountain, its wall was destroyed during the attack.

After short sightseeing, I came back to the hospital to treat a CTO case, which was rejected by any other foreign physicians to do. The lesion was located in the middle of RCA. By using a double guidewire technique, I opened it.

Ambassador Nagai kindly invited me to the dinner held in the official residence of Japanese Embassy. The house was a beautiful and traditional old Serbian architecture. The dinner was surprising. It was real Japanese food and its quality was so high. I think that such high quality Japanese food should be difficult to find even in Ginza, Tokyo.

After having lunch with Serbian doctors in the hotel, I left Belgrade by AZ 537 flight departing at 17:10 for Milan. At Milan Malpensa Airport, I changed the flight to JL 418 for Japan and came back to Japan around 17:00 on April 14 Saturday 2007.
Although this PCI tour was tough, I was very impressed to know how Serbia was achieving progress in any fields. I will definitely come back again to Belgrade.

4回目のセルビア
今回は4回目のセルビア訪問です。前回の訪問時との大きな違いは、モンテネグロが離 れた、ということです。セルビアに発つ前、私は東京のセルビア大使館Ivan Mrkic大使に 招かれ、セルビア大使館を訪問しました。それは東京の御殿山にあります。歓迎され、1時 間ぐらい話をしました。

2007年4月9日水曜日13:20発のJL417ミラノ行きで出発しました。アリタリア航 空AZ 538便に乗り換え、ベオグラードに着いたのはもう真夜中でした。ホテルは昨年と一 緒のBest Western Hotel M でした。ここは豪華ではありませんが、とても快適でインター ネットも高速です。翌日はベオグラード・クリニカル・センターを訪れた後、セルビア料 理レストランでの夕食会がありました。

私はMiodrag Ostojic 教授と共に、歓迎の言葉を述べました。会場は出席者で一杯でし た。開会式が終わるとすぐにライブデモンストレーションのために病院に向かいました。

|
数例のCTO症例を終えてから、ホテルにCTOの講義をするために戻りました。途中 にはたくさんの警官が警備に立っていました。ホテル近くのスタジアムでサッカーの国内 戦が開かれたのです。

|
アレキサンダー皇太子・カテリーナ皇太后ご夫妻主催の歓迎式典が7:30 PMから宮殿 で開催されました。長井 忠 在セルビア国日本国大使もご参加されました。大使は英語、 ロシア語はもちろんのこと、セルビア語も流暢に話されます。外国で日本国外務省職員が 日本人や日本国のために一生懸命働かれている姿に感銘を受けました。式典の中で、セル ビアのInterventional Cardiology発展に尽くした人々に対する表彰式がありました。

午前中、一例困難な症例を行いました。この症例を終えてから、Dr. OstojicとDr. Milan Nedeljkovic がタクシーによる観光をアレンジして下さいました。ドライバーはまず、アヴ ァラ山を案内してくれました。頂上には記念碑がありますが、最近の戦争時の砲弾で穴が 開いていました。

この山の後、セルビア料理レストランで昼食を摂り、それから丘の後ろにある女子修道 院に案内してもらいました。この丘の地下には旧ユーゴスラビア軍通信司令部があったの です。NATOによるセルビア攻撃の時には、アメリカ軍の爆撃機がこの通信司令部を狙っ て1トンのバンカー・バスター爆弾のピン・ポイント爆撃をしたのですが、地下の通信司 令部は少し振動しただけだったそうです。でも、その影響で修道院の壁は傷つきました。

短い観光の後、病院に戻りCTO症例を一例しました。この症例は、他の術者から拒否 された症例でした。病変は右冠動脈中部にありました。Double GWテクニックによって開 通させました。

長井大使はご親切にも、大使公邸での夕食に招いて下さいました。建物はとても美しい 伝統的なセルビア建築のものでした。そこでの夕食は驚くべきものでした。本当の日本料 理であり、そのグレードはとても高いものでした。このような高いグレードの日本料理は 東京の銀座でもなかなかお目にかかれません。

ホテルでセルビアの先生方と昼食を摂ってから、17:10発ミラノ行きAZ 537便でベオ グラードを発ちました。ミラノ・マルペンサ空港でJL 418便に乗り換え日本に着いたのは 2007年4月14日土曜日の17:00頃でした。
このPCI旅行はタフなものでしたが、セルビアでのあらゆる分野での発展に驚かされ ました。またベオグラードを訪問するつもりです。
