Visiting Mount Sinai Hospital

Departing at 12:00 on June 14 Thursday 2007 by JL 006 flight, I flew to New York again. Although this flight is always on time, the flight was delayed by 1 hour and arrived at 0:30 PM on the same day. I went straight to the Sheraton New York Hotel & Tower, which was arranged by the meeting. At the front lobby, Dr. John Coppola was waiting for me. He kindly prepared me a ticket for the New York Yankees Stadium. By taking the subway train, we hurried to the stadium. The game was already started from 1:30 PM. The seats arranged for us were close to the field. I was surprised to know the price of the seat. It was 150 US$ for 1 seat. It was in the afternoon of Thursday. However, the stadium was almost full. Yankees won the game with 4 hits by the Japanese Player Matsui. I really enjoyed the game.

There is very nice SUSHI restaurant in Manhattan. The quality of Japanese food there is comparable with those served in the best SUSHI restaurants in Ginza, Tokyo. Its name is “15 EAST”, which is located at 15 East of the 15th Street near Union Square. You can visit the website at http://www.15eastrestaurant.com. The Sushi Chef is Mr. Masato SHIMIZU, who used to work in the “Jewel Bako” Sushi restaurant, which does not exist any more. I enjoyed the dinner there.

I was invited as the only 1 Japanese Faculty member by the “10th Annual Live Symposium of Complex Coronary and Cardiovascular Cases”, which is held in the Mount Sinai Medical Center. The course director is Dr. Samin K. Sharma. While I was relaxing in my room in the morning, I received a telephone call from his secretary. “You have to come to the hospital soon. Dr. Sharma is waiting for your arrival in the catheter laboratory.” I took a taxi and hurried up there. The hospital is belonging to the Mount Sinai Medical University. The building is huge. After arriving at the hospital, I was quickly taken to the catheter laboratory. Dr. Sharma prepared 2 CTO cases for me. After watching the angiograms, I quickly started my procedures. It was a nice experience to do cases in such a famous hospital as the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

After finishing 2 cases, I came down to the big auditorium in the hospital, where the meeting was held. In order to put my face in the website, I was asked to take a nice photo. Then, I complete my roles as a moderator and lecturer during the course.

I visited “15 EAST” again for the dinner. I love New York. Next morning, I flew to Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Mount Sinai病院訪問

2007年6月14日木曜日12:00発のJL 006便でニューヨークに向かいました。この便は何 時も時刻表通りなのですが、今回は1時間ぐらい到着が遅れ、0:30 PM頃に到着しました。そ のままシェラトン・ホテルに急ぎました。ロビーではCoppola先生が待たれていました。そこ からヤンキー・スタジアムまで地下鉄で移動し、野球観戦に行きました。試合は1:30 PMから 始まっていました。Coppola先生はとても良い三塁側の内野席チケットを用意して下さいました。 チケットは何と150ドルもするものでした。木曜日の昼だというのに野球場はほぼ満席でした。 試合は、松井選手が4本のヒットを放ちヤンキースが圧勝しました。本当に試合を楽しみまし た。

マンハッタンには素晴らしい鮨屋さんがあります。そのレベルたるや銀座の一流店にひけを とりません。とりわけ良いのはUnion Squareの近く、15番通りにある「15 EAST」という所 です。ちゃんとウェブでも見ることができます。大将はSHIMIZU Masatoさんです。彼は、以 前今は潰れてしまった有名な「Jewel Bako」におられました。とてもおいしい寿司でした。

Mount Sinai病院でSharma先生によって開催されている「第10回心血管複雑病変治療の ライブデモンストレーション」からただ一人の日本人役員として招聘されて今回ニューヨークに 来ました。朝部屋でのんびりしていたら、Sharma先生の秘書の方から電話がありました。「早 く病院に来なさい。Sharma先生がカテ室で待っておられますよっ!」。あわててタクシーで向か いました。病院はMount Sinai大学付属病院であり、とても巨大です。病院に着くと、そのま まカテ室に連れていかれました。そして、2例のCTOに対してシネを見るなりいきなりPCIを 行いました。Mount Sinai病院のように世界的にもとっても有名な病院でPCIをしたことは、 とても良い経験でした。

この2例のPCIを終えてから病院の中の大きな講堂に行きました。そこで学会が開かれて いるのです。私の顔写真をウェブに掲載するために写真を撮られました。そして、演者およびモ デレーターを務めました。

この夜もまた「15 EAST」を訪ねました。ニューヨークは良い所です。翌朝、ブラジルのサ ンパウロに向けて飛び立ちました。
