I arrived in Chicago 9:30 AM on the same day. After checking in the hotel, I had lunch in the famous Chicago Pizza restaurant “UNO”. The Pizza there was very thick and large in volume. I had dinner in SUSHI restaurant “MIRAI” as well as in “ITTO” with Dr. Ikeno from Stanford University. Because of jet lag, I lost my consciousness in “ITTO”.
March 30th Sunday 2008
Chicago Convention Center is huge. There were so many participants. My 1st role in ACC-i2 Summit was a lecturer for “Antegrade Approach: CTO Advanced Techniques” between 13:00 and 13:15. After finishing this talk, I was invited to a suit room in the Hyatt Regency Hotel next to the Convention Center by Dr. Jeffry Popma for TV interview, who was the current President of SCAI. With short discussion, Dr. Popma started interview for me. The title of the interview was “How to introduce TRI in US”. The interview was finished surprisingly smoothly in 10 minutes. I had Japanese dinner again on the day at Japanese Restaurant “Chiyo”. People said that Japanese Major League Baseball Players Mr. Fukudome and Mr. H. Matsui frequently visited this restaurant.
March 31st Monday 2008
I am one of the Editorial Board members of Catheterization Cardiovascular Intervention, which is the official journal for SCAI and APSIC (Asian-Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology). Another Japanese editorial board member was Dr. Hideaki YOKOI. I joined the Editorial Board meeting between 11:00 and 12:00. I was the only Japanese attendant. After finishing this meeting, I bought an electrical stethoscope of 3M, which was sold with reduced price in the exhibition area.

I displayed my poster presentation at 13:00 and stood in front of my poster between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM to answer the questions. After finishing my poster presentation, I hurried to Chicago O’Hare Airport to take the domestic flight for New York. Recently, the domestic flights schedule in US was confused. Many flights were suddenly cancelled because of too much restructuring of airline company employees and some airplane machine troubles. My flight was also suddenly cancelled. However, I was lucky to catch another flight. Finally, I arrived in JFK Airport later than 11:00 PM.
April 1st Tuesday 2008
I had rest in the morning in my hotel room, and visited Saint Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center to see Dr. John Coppola and discuss about the cases with him in the afternoon. The TRI min live demonstration course was scheduled on April 2nd within the hospital. I was asked to treat 4 patients out of 6 patients in total assigned to the live demonstration.
After having dinner together with St Vincent’s hospital staffs, I went to have SUSHI in “15th EAST” and SOBA at “Soba-Koh”. The tastes there were fantastic as always.

April 2nd Wednesday 2008
The live demonstration course started from 8:30 AM. I quickly finished 4 cases successfully, of course, through TRI. After having dinner together with friends in an Indian Restaurant, I again visited “15th EAST” and “Soba-Koh”. Next day on April 3rd, I returned to Japan flying by JL 005 flight departing at 13:30 and arriving in NARITA at 16:25 on April 4th Friday 2008. This time, the travel schedule to US was long for me.

ACCに参加
小倉記念病院から日本循環器学会にライブデモンストレーションを3月27日に飛ばしまし た。翌日、札幌でバチスタ講演会をマネージし、その翌日の 2008年3月29日土曜日12:00発 のJAL 010便で成田からシカゴに飛びました。今回はACC (アメリカ心臓病学会)とSCAI (ア メリカ心血管造影・治療学会)に参加するためでした。今年はこの両学会が併設して開催された のです。私は、ACC-i2 Summitの招聘メンバーであり、しかもSCAIの出している雑誌である CCIの編集委員ですので、毎年参加せねばなりません。おまけに今年はACCで自分自身の発表 もありました。

シカゴには同じ日の9:30 AMに着きました。ホテルにチェック・インしてからシカゴ・ピ ザ発祥の店”UNO”に行き、シカゴ・ピザを食べました。とても厚い大きなピザでした。夕食は、 池野君と一緒に、二軒の寿司屋 “MIRAI” と “ITTO” で食べました。でも時差ぼけのため途中 で意識不明となりました。

シカゴ国際会議場はものすごく大きい施設です。本当にたくさんの参加者でした。ACC-i2 Summitでの私の最初の役割は13:00から13:15の“Antegrade Approach: CTO Advanced Techniques” という講演でした。この後、私はPopma先生からのテレビ・インタビューを受け るために隣のHyatt Regencyホテルに行きました。Popma先生はSCAIの現在の理事長です。 少しだけ打ち合わせしてからスタートしました。このインタビューのタイトルは「どうやって米 国でTRIを普及するか?」というものでした。とってもスムーズに10分ぐらいで終了しました。 もしも興味がありますれば、http://themdtv.org/play.php?submission_id=488でダウンロード できますよ。

夕食は”Chiyo”という日本食でとりました。ここには大リーグの福留や松井秀選手が来られ るそうです。

私はCCI誌の編集委員の一人です。この雑誌はもちろんSCAIとAPSICの機関誌です。日 本からのもう一人のメンバーは岸和田の横井先生です。編集委員会が11:00から12:00ありまし たので、それに参加しましたが、日本人は僕だけでした。その後、展示場で安く売られていた 3Mの電子聴診器を購入しました。

13:00に自分の発表ポスターを貼り、3:00 PMから4:00 PMの間はその前に立ち、質問を受 けました。ポスター展示を終えてから国内線でNew Yorkに向かうため、急いでシカゴ・オヘア 空港に向かいました。このところ、アメリカ国内線は無茶苦茶です。航空会社のリストラが極限 にまで進行し、機種のトラブルもあり、突然運行がキャンセルされるのです。僕の最初のフライ トもキャンセルされました。でも幸運なことに、別の便に乗ることができ、最終的に11:00 PM を過ぎてからNY JFK空港に到着しました。

ホテルの部屋で休みました。そして、午後にCoppola先生に会いに、St Vincetn病院に行 きました。翌日この病院でTRIのミニライブが開催されるのです。このライブの中では6例治 療が行われるのですが、その内の4例を治療するように言われました。
St Vincentの皆と夕食を摂った後、”15th EAST”と”Soba-Koh”で寿司と蕎麦を食べました。 とってもおいしかったです。

ライブは8:30 AMから始まりました。私はもちろんTRIで4例をさっさと治療しました。 皆でインド料理を夕食に摂った後、またまた ”15th EAST”と”Soba-Koh”で寿司と蕎麦を食べ ました。翌日の4月3日に13:30 発のJL 005便で帰国し、翌日4日の16:25に成田に到着し ました。今回のアメリカ訪問は少し長かったです。
